Mara Purl

Everyone talks about characters — the ones they love; the ones they hate; the ones they love to hate . . .But how does an author go about actually creating characters that are both realistic and memorable? Author Mara Purl does this for a living. Many of her readers say her characters become friends they like to keep up with.
She will share with us two specific tools that help with creating great characters. Join Mara as she dives deep into creating characters that have both adhesion within themselves, and distinction from one another. One of her tools is about the head; one is about the heart. One is about color; one is about personality types.
Join us for a fun and practical session.

About Mara Purl

Mara Purl is the best-selling author of Milford-Haven Novels & Stories, which have won more than 30 book awards. Her serial novels are uniquely structured to suit new media formats and stand-alone novella-stories enhance her saga.

Mara pioneered small-town fiction for women with her popular and critically acclaimed series. She has a loyal following in the Women’s Fiction genre and has become a spokeswoman both for authors and for readers of Women’s Fiction.

She is a member of the Authors Guild and of the Writers Guild West.

As an actress, Mara’s regular role on the TV soap opera Days Of Our Lives opened the door for her to create her own soap. Mara was awarded the 2003 Peak Award for performing her one-woman play (co-written with Sydney Swire) Mary Shelley – In Her Own Words. She has co-starred in six productions of Sea Marks by Gardner McKay, and stars as Julia in Becoming Julia Morgan.

Having been part of the all-star cast of Milford-Haven USA, she is now a noted audio book performer.

Mara is a frequent speaker at writing and author conferences, works privately as an authoring coach, and serves on the boards and advisory boards of several professional organizations.

Mara was named Woman of the Year by the Los Angeles County Commission for Women.
